Paul Smith

Paul Smith began his musical studies at the age of 14 on the Electric and Classical Guitars under Maurice Arenas. Mr. Smith went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree with Honors from the Mannes College of Music under Frederic Hand and his Master’s Degree at The Juilliard School under Sharon Isbin.
Mr. Smith has premiered over twenty new works for guitar including the world premiere of Robert Cuckson’s Concerto for Guitar with the Mannes Orchestra. His voice and guitar ensemble, The Janus Duo with tenor Daniel Molkentin, specializes in contemporary premieres and has been featured at Vassar College. As a soloist Mr. Smith has performed at Alice Tully Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOSA Concert Series and the Morgan Library and Museum.
As an instructor, Mr. Smith has taught all ages from beginners to advanced levels and is the academic advisor for guitar at Bergen Academy of Music and Art (BAMA). With a focus on individual lesson planning, every student has the opportunity to achieve their musical goals quickly and effectively. Mr. Smith has taught at The School at Columbia University and worked as a McCabe Fellow at the Juilliard School specializing in performance based outreach programs.
