Music School Faculty Detail

Clara Zhou
Piano

A creative musician and a professional teacher, Clara Zhou recently received her Master’s degree from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. She came from a family of teacher, which supported her became a professional in both teaching and performing. Teaching has always been an important focus for Clara and she has been teaching music for 8 years. She believes music education should always be enjoyable and the best way to learn is through hands on experiences.

For the past two years, Clara has been a faculty member of Manhattan School of Music’s summer camp, where she taught piano lessons, piano literature and chamber music classes. Clara has also taught group piano lessons at PS-37 in Bronx, NY. Before coming to New York, Clara was a piano teacher in Shanghai Bangde University and Shanghai Dongdong Art School. She also taught general music classes in Shanghai Nanyang Public school. Clara had a busy private piano studio in Shanghai for 4 years and all of her students passed their annual piano grade testing successfully. Some her students passed the highest score available.

As a pianist, Clara successfully gave solo and chamber music concerts in the United States and China. She performed in John F. Kennedy Center, Columbia University’s Roone Arledge Auditorium, Shanghai Theater, Shanghai Heluting Hall and Shanghai Luxun Museum Hall.

Besides teaching piano, Clara also devotes time as a teaching artist on the stage. She did several music presentations in New York public schools under the outreach office and distance learning office at MSM. She worked as an instrument builder in pre-concert activities for a New York Philharmonic Young People’s Concert at Avery Fisher Hall. She participated as a performer at a Memorial Concert for Gunnar Schonbeck (a famed instrument builder and professor) at Bennington College in Vermont; also involved herself as a performer of “learning music and making instruments concerts for children ” in 92nd Street Y’s.
