Shannon Merlino
Violin

Shannon Merlino, a native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, began her violin studies at the age of 9. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Rutgers University and is currently on scholarship at the Mannes College of Music, completing her Master of Music degree as a student of Dr. Chin Kim. Her primary teachers have been Dmitri Levin, Matthew Reichert, Lenuta Ciulei, and Emlyn Ngai.
Ms. Merlino is currently a member of the Mannes Orchestra, the Mannes Repertory Orchestra, and the Garden State Philharmonic. She has been a member of the Mannes Baroque Ensemble and the Mannes Sinfonietta as well as the Rutgers University Orchestra and the Hartt Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Ms. Merlino attended the Pierre Monteux School in the summer of 2006, where she served as concertmaster for the final concert. Ms. Merlino also has studied orchestral conducting, her teachers including John Darling, Patrick Gardner, Benjamin Loeb, and Kynan Johns.
Teaching has always been an important aspect of Ms. Merlino’s career. Ms. Merlino has extensive experience teaching students of all ages and levels. She strives to teach her students to feel very comfortable with their instruments, incorporating her studies in both traditional and Suzuki teaching methods as well as her research in modern violin technique. Besides teaching privately, Ms. Merlino has been on the faculties of the East Brunswick Academy of Music in New Jersey as well as the Hartt Community Division at the University of Hartford in Connecticut.
