Kanako Koyama

Ms. Kanako Koyama began her music studies at Yamaha Music Education Program in Japan in her early age and started taking piano lessons at the age of five. She is an active and passionate musician as a soloist, a chamber musician, and a teacher. Ms. Koyama received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. She is currently finishing her Master's Program at the same school, studying solo piano with Marc Silverman and chamber music with Gerald Robbins.
Ms. Koyama regularly performs in her native country, Japan, as we as in the U.S. Her most recent performances were at the Steinway Hall New York, the Steinway Salon Tokyo, Florence Gould Hall New York, Kammer Musik Saal Leipzig etc. She has scheduled several concerts in the 2008/2009 season, including at the Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall as a recipient of Artist International Award in 2008. Ms. Koyama has participated various master classes and music festivals, studying and performing with wonderful musicians, chamber groups, and the festival orchestras there.
Teaching has always been an important part of Ms. Koyama’s career. Besides keeping a busy private studio, Ms. Koyama has also participated in the Piano Pedagogy Institute at Longy School of Music in Boston in 2006 and studied other pedagogy programs in New York. As an experienced teacher, Ms. Koyama has experience teaching students of all ages and levels, focusing on developing each student’s personality, creative mind, and artistic interpretation besides musical skills. Her teaching includes music theory, music history, aural skills, ear-training, and techniques. Many of her students have succeeded in performances and public exams such as the Royal Academy certification, Nyssma exams, etc. Her passion and love for music are clear to all people who work with her together. Ms. Koyama hopes that her artistic teaching touches students’ heart and motivates them to enjoy music for their life time.
