Preschool age is the perfect time to introduce young minds to music. Our program, Piano Toons, helps students who are not yet ready for private lessons but have a strong interest in doing something musical. Our instructor Heather Edwards has been shaping young musicians minds for over 10 year. She started with us in 2013 and has really taken the program to a whole new level. Some of the basic concepts discussed in Piano Toons are: understanding left hand/right hand; note values; note names; location of notes on the piano; dynamics, etc. The goal of the class is to help prepare students for private piano or violin lessons down the road.
Piano Toons is formatted like our private lessons at BAMA, the class meets once a week at the same day and time with the same instructor. Right now we only offer Piano Toons on Saturdays at our Oradell location in the morning. We hope to offer Piano Toons in the near future at Park Ridge if enough students are interested. Each Piano Toons class consists of 6 students max and runs for 45 minutes. The cost is $30/class with 2 complimentary classes included for any upcoming vacations or sick days.
Regarding the materials used in Piano Toons, we work with the Klav-Ear for Kids series of method books. We find this program to really guide students, in a fun way, through the beginning stages of music. There are fun pictures and a CD included to help parents and students at home. This book is available for students to purchase directly from BAMA for an additional $15.
So, if you’ve been looking for the perfect activity for your 4 or 5 year old – give us a call! Open Houses are going on now and we’d love to host you for a free class.
