Dr. Catherine Bobbs
Catherine Bobbs has been teaching and performing for the past 45 years throughout the country. Having studios in Los Angeles, Cleveland, and Houston, Catherine has enjoyed teaching both in conservatories and privately, as well as accompanying. She has taught at Colburn and Oberlin Conservatories where her students consistently were top award winners in local and national competitions. Her students have soloed with major and local orchestras, been on the From the Top program, and have been accepted into major conservatories. An accomplished accompanist, Catherine was the staff accompanist for Rice University and now at the Juilliard Pre College program where she accompanies violin and cello students.
A UCLA graduate in piano performance, Catherine holds a Doctorate of Music, a Master of Fine Arts as well as a Masters in Piano Pedagogy. Catherine is passionate about teaching young people the beauty and personal enrichment of music. Her teaching philosophy is that introducing the classical literature at an early stage in the learning process keeps the students motivated and inspired as well as accelerates the progress of the students. Jazz and contemporary music repertoire is also an important factor in keeping the children interested in their piano studies.
Being a member of many professional music associations, Catherine offers competitive opportunities to her students which gives the students many performance venues as well as inspiration to practice and achieve. A mother of 8 children herself and a teacher for the past 45 years gives Catherine a unique understanding of how young people learn. She strives to connect to each young student. Catherine recently moved from Houston Texas so that her youngest daughters could attend the Precollege program at Juilliard, and is looking forward to being a part of the Bergen Academy of Music and Art.
