Dr. Carol Shansky has been heard in recitals in Boston, Pittsburgh, San Jose, New York City and in other venues on both the west and east coasts. Her European debut was at the European International Festival in Geneva, Switzerland as a prizewinner of the Concerts Atlantique Competition. Her interest in chamber music has brought her to concert halls at the British Arts Center of Yale University, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Tanglewood’s Little Theatre, and the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center. In addition, Dr. Shansky has performed at conventions of the National Flute Association, MidAtlantic Flute, and the International Low Flutes Conference. Other conference and convention performances include the International Music by Women Festival, Darkwater Festival of Women Composers, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, College Music Society National and Regional Conferences, New Jersey Flute Society, International Clarinet Association, and others. Carol Shansky has been a prizewinner in the Pearl Amster Concerto Competition, the JCC of Metro NJ Young Artist’s Competition, and Artists International. She was awarded a mini-grant for her recital, “Voices Lost: Composers Suppressed in the Holocaust” from the Center for Peace, Justice and Reconciliation at Bergen Community College (NJ).

A chamber musician and orchestral flutist, Carol Shansky plays with Synergy 78 (flutes and clarinets), Highwood Chamber Ensemble, and is principal flute of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (NJ). Carol has been interviewed and performed live on New York Public Radio and North Jersey Public Radio. She is a frequent recitalist and pit musician for musicals in the greater New York City area.

Dr. Shansky is on the faculty of Kutztown University and Bergen Community College where she teaches Applied Flute and Chamber Music and was previously the Applied Flute faculty at New Jersey City University. She maintains a private studio in Tenafly, NJ and teaches at several music schools. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from Boston University, where she studied under Leone Buyse then of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and her Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College. She has performed in masterclasses with Paula Robison, Samuel Baron, Geoffrey Gilbert and Torkil Bye.
